Restylane and Perlane are hyaluronic acids that have been used outside the United states since 1996 and was finally introduced and approved by the FDA in December 2003. The difference between the two is that Perlane is more viscous because it has larger particles and more cross links. Excellent to improve the volume of the midface and also to improve the nasolabial folds (lines and creases adjacent the nose) after lifting the midface. Since this product is thick, it can do a nice correction with very little product. In my opinion, it is a very cost effective filler. Perlane is known to last on average from nine to twelve months.

Hyaluronic acid was first scientifically isolated 70 years ago and named after the Greek word “hyalos” meaning “glass” due to its appearance. Since 1996 when its use as dermal filler began, Restylane® has become one of the world’s most studied dermal fillers.

Restylane® and Perlane® are safely metabolized and degraded by your liver to carbon dioxide and water. It has been consistently shown to be a safe and effective non surgical option for the immediate correction of unwanted superficial lines and wrinkles. Restylane® and Perlane® are FDA approved to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as the lines from your nose to the corner of your mouth (nasolabial folds).

The difference between Restylane® and Perlane® is the particle size of the filler itself. Perlane® is the larger particle size designed for deeper filling. The deeper fill of Perlane® gives Dr. Aguilera the flexibility to use his expertise and eye for sculpting symmetry to give you back a younger, fresher look.

Both Restylane® and Perlane® are intermediate lasting fillers with an average of 6 and max of 12 months. Side effects are mild to moderate and include temporary injection site reactions like redness, pain, firmness, swelling, bumps and bruising.
