 Dr. Katz recently led a clinical study on the Smartlipo MPX that will be published in a peer reviewed journal shortly. Small tattoos were strategically placed on patients to measure the skin tightening effects of the Smartlipo MPX. Dr. Katz made a tiny incision in the patients skin, while threading the dual wavelength (1320 nanometer and 1064 nanometer) laser under the skin to remove fat under the tattooed area. Dr. Katz discovered new collagen growth on the biopsies taken from the patients and further results show a 20% skin tightening improvement in the areas surrounding the tattoos.
According to Dr. Katz, Smartlipo MPX Laser is much faster and powerful than the last generation of Smartlipo. The dual wavelength technology precisely targets larger areas on the body, causes less bleeding, swelling and bruising, and dramatically tightens skin around the treated area.

The 1064nm wavelength disrupts a broad region of adipose tissue while heating the treated areas evenly. It also mediates blood vessel coagulation enhancing hemostasis.
The 1320nm wavelength, in contrast, scatters minimally and is robustly absorbed by the water in the tissue located near the laser tip.
The combination of the two wavelengths creates a blended thermal and photomechanical effect that efficiently liquefies fat and tightens skin through collagen remodeling. |

Laser lipolysis represents a major advance over traditional liposuction for the removal of unwanted fat. Like liposuction, the procedure removes excess adipose (fat) tissue from diet and exercise resistant problem areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs or buttocks. Additionally, though, it can treat smaller areas like the face, under the chin, neck, upper arms, knees and ankles.laser lipolysis is an ideal body sculpting procedure for those men and women who desire a fast, easy and effective alternative to plastic surgery and traditional liposuction.
The procedure itself takes advantage of the latest developments in the use of lasers in aesthetic medicine. First, the treatment area is numbed and inflated with an anesthetic solution. In addition to minimizing discomfort, the solution makes the fat cells more fragile. Then, a pinhole incision is made with a "micro-cannula" (a flexible surgical tube) that's a mere 1mm in diameter or about the same size as the needle used for a blood test. Next, an optical fiber is passed through the cannula to the target area. Laser light energy pulses through the fiber where it targets unwanted fat, breaking it down both thermally and chemically. The result is a light, oily substance that is either removed through gentle, low power suction or is simply re-absorbed naturally by the body.
The laser treatment will also affect collagen structures in the problem area, which provides lifting & tightening without more drastic surgery. This helps to shape the body without the loose skin associated with traditional liposuction.
Because the incisions needed are so small, scarring is all but invisible. And, because the suction, if any, is so gentle, (as the fat is now a liquid and easily removed) laser lipolysis is much easier on the body than the more aggressive, traditional liposuction, recovery times are greatly reduced. In most cases, you can return to your regular activities within a day, although you may need to refrain from strenuous activities or massage for 7 to 10 days following your laser treatment. You may temporarily experience some slight bruising or swelling in the area. Due to the natural absorption of the dissolved fat tissue, as well as the regenerating effect on the collagen, you should expect to see the full results of laser lipolysis 2 to 4 months following your procedure
