• Intense Pulsed Light delivers a broad spectrum of wavelengths. By delivering this varied range of wavelengths, selectivity is limited. The majority of the energy is absorbed by superficial targets. Penetration is not as deep due to scatter.
• The 694nm Ruby laser has an extremely high affinity for melanin and can be dangerous for darker skin types.
• 775nm is the gold standard wavelength for hair removal on Skin types I – III due to its high melanin absorption and depth of penetration.
• The 810nm Diode laser has a lower attraction to melanin than the Alexandrite, but more than the 1064nm Nd:YAG. This wavelength is less effective on lighter skin and finer, lighter hair, but is still may be dangerous for dark or tanned skin.
• The 1064nm Nd:YAG has an even lower absorption of melanin, but it is a very deep penetrating wavelength. This wavelength bypasses melanin in the skin and delivers energy to the depth of hair shaft. This wavelength is the gold standard for hair removal for skin types IV – VI and tanned skin.
