Dysport™
You've probably heard that Botox has a new competitor. In April 2009, the FDA approved the use of Dysport™ an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuro-muscular blocking agent, meant to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines and lines between the eyebrows. Dysport treatment has also been successfully used to treat forehead lines and crow’s feet.
History
Used in the Europe/UK since 1991, Dysport is used in 76 other countries as well for both therapeutic use (such as movement disorders) and in 27 countries for aesthetic use, similar to Botox Cosmetic. In the United States, the safety of Dysport for the treatment of glabellar lines (frown lines) was studied in more than 2,400 patients. It is estimated that more than 600,000 patients in Europe have been treated over many years.
Treatment
The treatment is straightforward and similar to Botox. It involves a few injections with a very fine needle of Dysport solution into the muscles that produce the frown line upon contraction. Results appear to be more rapid than with Botox and can be noticed in some patients within 24 hours of their first treatment which our patients love when they have a fast upcoming event that they want to look quickly refreshed for. Dysport treatment is safe. The effects will gradually wear off and the frown lines will reappear. On average, a Dysport treatment lasts four to six months, but you will know when you are due for another treatment as your frown lines or wrinkles return. While Dysport shares the same aesthetic intent as Botox, they are not equal in terms of dosage and migration, so be sure you are in experienced hands that understand the nuances of this new "Dysport" treatment to avoid any complications.
Dysport is an FDA-approved injection treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles in the forehead. Similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport is injected directly into the site of wrinkles to prevent the underlying muscles from contracting. Dysport injections are made from the bacterium Clostridum botulinum, the same protein used in Botox® injections.
Am I a good candidate for Dysport?
Dysport injections are ideal for nearly any patient who wishes to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face and restore a younger and more refreshed appearance. Both men and women can benefit from this procedure and experience the physical and emotional effects of an improved appearance.
How are Dysport injections administered?
Dysport injections are administered directly into the facial muscles that cause frown lines and other wrinkles. These injections are generally painless and do not require anesthesia, although a numbing agent may be used to help minimize any discomfort for patients who are anxious about the procedure. Treatment sessions usually take less than 15 minutes to perform, and are administered at six weeks intervals. Most patients achieve their desired results within three to five injections.| INTERNET ONLY SPECIAL!! |

What are the results of the Dysport treatment?
After the Dysport injection, the facial muscles will gradually relax and patients will notice the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles diminishing over one to seven days. With repeated treatment, results may last longer and should require less treatments.
An Alternative to Botox ®
We are one of the first in Florida to offer Dysport (the first competitor to Botox® Cosmetic), an FDA-approved treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles in the forehead. Similar to BOTOX, Dysport is injected directly into the site of wrinkles to prevent the underlying muscles from contracting. Dysport often takes effect within 1-2 days (vs. Botox 7-10 days) and is great for a quick, last minute refresher for an event that’s coming up fast. Dysport is made from the same protein used in Botox. Dr. Aguilera will discuss your options and the differences in person during your consultation so you can decide which treatment is best for you.
